Music Passion is run by a team of dedicated professionals working with its Director, Eric Cathan, and coming from various parts of the world. Each team member is highly committed to excellence, expert in her/his field, from database management to Facebook advertising, web services, video production, graphic design etc.. This team is the real thrust behind our work.
Born in Mauritius, Eric Cathan first studied classical guitar with the formidable Mauritian guitar pioneer, Gérard François, then in Paris with the Franco-Spanish master, Rafael Andia. Eric is a Graduate of the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. During his stay in Paris, he also established a music therapy class for handicapped children at the Hospital St Jean de Dieu, pioneering a guitar playing system for their special needs.
After his studies he migrated to Australia in 1988 and founded “Open String’ his own guitar school. Eric concertized with musicians of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (1990-1996), founded the Sydney Classical Guitar Society (1990), the Central Coast International Guitar Festival (2006). He was a member of the « Alhambra » Guitar Quartet with Rafael Andia, Claire Sananikone and Giuseppe Zangari, with whom he toured Australia (2008).
He continued his interest in music therapy with guitar, collaborating with Enid Rowe, at the Rudolf Steiner Center in Dural, Sydney, the pioneer of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Australia. Mrs Rowe’s tireless work led to the establishment of the first Music Therapy degree in Australia, at the University of Western Sydney.
Eric gives solo and duo recital recitals. He was a guitar teacher at the Central Coast Conservatorium from and Lecturer in Music Education at University of Newcastle and University of New South Wales (UNSW).
Eric holds an Executive Diploma in Event Management from the University of Technology Sydney and created the Sydney Classical Guitar Festival in November 2017.
In Mauritius, Eric teaches and successfully develops music therapy-based programs for various NGOs and for diverse multinational companies. Eric is a member of the continuing education program of the Music Therapy Ed. (USA).
He is currently preparing novel musical projects, writing a book on event management and producing mixed collaborations of various Mauritian and foreign artists coming together, including his Australian and overseas colleagues.
Eric is available for public and private recitals, music therapy and leadership conferences. He set up Music Passion Ltd in May 2019.
